2 UW professors elected to National Academy of Sciences

Two University of Wisconsin–Madison researchers — Jo Handelsman, professor in the Department of Plant Pathology and director of the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery and Shannon Stahl, Steenbock Professor of Chemical Sciences — have been elected to membership in the National Academy of Sciences.

Handelsman and Stahl are among 120 scientists elected this year in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research, according to this week’s announcement from the academy. Membership is a widely accepted mark of excellence in science and is considered one of the highest honors that a scientist can receive.
