Wisconsin on Monday was named one of 31 regional tech hubs by the Biden administration, a designation involving Madison companies such as Exact Sciences and Accuray that allows the state to compete for $40 million to $70 million to grow its biohealth industry.
The state’s bid focuses on personalized medicine, or tailoring treatments to a patient’s genetic makeup or other individual characteristics. The approach also involves companies such as Verona-based Epic Systems and GE Healthcare and Rockwell Automation in the Milwaukee area.
“We can be a global tech hub within the next 10 years in the personalized medicine space,” said Lisa Johnson, CEO of BioFoward, the state’s biohealth industry association and head of a 15-member consortium of public and private groups that applied for the hub.
