According to a UW–Madison working group’s new report, “Empowering the Wisconsin Idea: The Future of Entrepreneurship at the University of Wisconsin–Madison,” the university’s culture around entrepreneurship “emphasizes gatekeeping and risk management,” which harms its ability to attract startup talent, WisBusiness reports.
The report, released yesterday, was authored by a group of business experts assembled by UW–Madison leadership. It defines areas of weakness within the university’s framework for encouraging entrepreneurship but also makes recommendations for the improvement of related programs, private sector collaboration, and internal coordination.
